Skilled Private Practice Lactation Support in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia
Carrie Clem, IBCLC (with her baby)
My name is Carrie Clem and I am a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in private practice here in my home of the beautiful Annapolis Valley. As the oldest of four children who were lucky enough to have been breastfed, I have always been fascinated with babies, birth, parenting/mothering, and breastfeeding.
After living in BC for a number of years, on an island where home-birth was common, I decided to study Midwifery. I graduated with my Bachelor of Health Sciences in Midwifery from Laurentian University in Ontario in 2009. During my studies I attended many births, at home and in hospital, and saw how birth could impact the breastfeeding experience. I also saw how important close post-partum support was for families, and for successful breastfeeding.
After returning home to NS that year, I started a family, and my partner and I now have three growing children. I became a La Leche League Leader in 2011 and have provided peer-support for breastfeeding parents for over 10 years in that role. This work has allowed me to support families in our area, while being home with my children.
In 2016, I wrote the IBLCE exam and received my IBCLC credential. Through the years I have continued to support folks in my community through my work with La Leche League. I have also continued my education through ongoing training specific to breastfeeding, and, in 2021, re-certified for my IBCLC credential.
I am a member of the Atlantic Lactation Consultant Association (ALCA), the Canadian Lactation Consultant Association (CLCA), and the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA).
I am very happy to be able to offer Private Practice Lactation Consulting services to my community and look forward to serving you and your family.
